Looking for a family-friendly day out near The Mortimer Arms? Longdown Activity Farm is one of our closest neighbours and a brilliant choice for little farmers (and grown-ups). We’re handily placed just off the M27 at Junction 2, right by the entrance to Paultons Park, on the edge of the New Forest – so it’s easy to pair a farm visit with a relaxed meal or an overnight stay with us.
How far is Longdown Activity Farm from The Mortimer Arms?
It’s roughly 3.5 miles from our door, so you’ll be there in under 15 minutes by car depending on traffic.

Where it is: Ashurst, on the edge of the New Forest National Park. The farm is well signposted with brown tourist signs from all major routes.
What you’ll find at the farm
Longdown is all about hands-on fun, with a daily timetable of activities – think bottle-feeding kid goats and calves, tractor-trailer rides, and plenty of animal encounters. There are indoor and outdoor play areas, picnic spots and a farm shop for local treats. (Activity times can vary, so it’s worth checking the schedule on the day.)
Opening times: typically 10am – 5pm (10am – 4.30pm from October). Check the farm’s site for seasonal dates and any changes before you travel.
A simple plan for your day
- Morning at the farm: aim to arrive for opening so you can catch the first bottle-feeding session. Bring wipes and a spare layer – there’s a good chance of muddy smiles.
- Head back to us after 3 – 4 hours: we’re close enough for a quick change and a breather.
- Dinner at The Mortimer Arms: our kitchen serves fresh, home-made dishes every day, with children well catered for and a cosy bar area that’s dog-friendly.
- Staying over? We’ve 14 en-suite rooms – ideal if you’re also visiting Paultons Park/Peppa Pig World the next day.
