The Mortimer Arms is a characterful country inn in Ower, just outside Romsey on the edge of the New Forest. You’ll find us by M27 Junction 2 at the Ower Interchange – handy for meet-ups, weekends away and days out at Paultons Park. Ower itself is a small New Forest hamlet between Totton and Romsey, with the motorway skirting just to the south.
A short history
The building dates from the Victorian period and was originally part of the Paultons estate, which once centred on a grand country house where the theme park now sits. That estate history gives the pub its traditional look and sturdy proportions – think tall sash windows and a classic inn silhouette.
In November 2024 The Mortimer Arms became fully independent, with all decisions now made by the on-site team. It’s a fresh chapter rooted in a long local story.
Today – a proper pub with rooms
Step inside for a relaxed bar, a spacious dining room and 14 en-suite bedrooms upstairs, plus a private function room for parties and meetings. It’s the kind of place where you can warm up after a forest walk, bring the family for supper or stay the night and make a mini-break of it.
On the doorstep
- Paultons Park – home of Peppa Pig World and family coasters – is right next door, making us an easy base for park days.
- The New Forest National Park spreads out in every direction – heathland, ancient woodland and free-roaming ponies within a short drive or cycle.
